How to Generate your IMEI and MEP Numbers Manually

This page will help you generate your IMEI and MEP numbers manually, if you are having trouble with the IMEI/MEP reader.

1) On your BlackBerry keyboard press ALT + CAPS + H keys
(you will need to press all three buttons at the same time, not individually)

Note: For Pearl and other Sure-type phones press and hold the ALT key (Bottom left) and type E A C E, for Storm, hold the BACK arrow, and tap the screen in the following areas:TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT, TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT.

2) You should be presented with a screen with several different numbers. Look for Device PIN, App version, and Uptime, and enter them EXACTLY as they appear into the fields below, then click the "Get my code” button. Stay on this screen on your BlackBerry, do not exit this screen otherwise you will have to start from Step 1. Make sure you don’t have any extra spaces in any of the fields below. A code will appear next to "Your key is:”.

                                       Enter data above.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS KEY IS NOT YOUR MEP UNLOCK NUMBER.  CONTINUE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO GET YOUR MEP NUMBER

3) Type this code into your BlackBerry. Again you must still be on the screen that shows the App version, PIN, and Uptime, and you must type this code while on that screen. If you exited back to the main screen on the BlackBerry, the key code above will not work. YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY THING ON THE SCREEN AS YOU TYPE THE CODE, JUST TYPE IT IN ANYWAY. Make sure you press the alt button before entering numbers! For example, if the code given to you below is 98FF5EA9, then you would press: alt 9 alt 8 f f alt 5 e a alt 9.

4) Now you should be in the Engineering Screen Contents menu. Scroll down and select OS Engineering Screens.

5) In the next screen, scroll down and select Device Info.

6) In the next screen, scroll down and look for your MEP number. It will be in this format: MEP-XXXXX-XXX where each X is a number. You may have to scroll quite a bit as the MEP code is near the bottom of this screen. This is your BlackBerry’s MEP code! Write it down somewhere.

7) Now for your IMEI number, exit the Engineering Screens by pressing the Back button on your BlackBerry. Once you get to your BlackBerry’s main screen, type the following using your BlackBerry’s keyboard: *#06#

8) Your IMEI number should now appear on the screen. You now have both your IMEI and MEP codes!

Did the above steps not work? Here are some common mistakes we make when trying to get the MEP number manually.

1) If you have a bracket in your App version, make sure you leave a space before the opening bracket. For example, if App version is 5.0.0.1 (422), leave a space between the "1" and the "(", so in the field above, you would enter it as 5.0.0.1 (422) instead of 5.0.0.1(422).

2)When entering the uptime, do not enter the word "seconds" into the box. So if your Uptime is 867 seconds, just enter the number 867.

3) When you get the code from above, make sure you are still on the screen that displays the Uptime, App Version and Pin information. In other words, after pressing alt + caps + H in step 1, you are taken to the screen displaying those 3 pieces of information. You MUST stay on that screen until it's time to enter the code. If you exit the screen and go back, the Uptime will have changed and so you will have to generate a new code.

4) Lastly, ensure you press and release the alt button before each number in the code. So if the code is AFH7J76C, you would type a f h alt 7 j alt 7 alt 6 c. Follow those pointers and you should have no problem generating your MEP number.
